  On 26th April, 2013, the certificate-granting ceremony of the 7th "Zhu kezhen chair professor in history of science" was held in the room 510 of the institute for the natural science, CAS. Director Baichun Zhang awarded the copper certificate of the "Zhu kezhen chair professor in history of science" to Prof. Jens Høyrup and on behalf of the institute to thank Prof.Jens’s hard work on teaching.

  

  

  

  

  

   

  

  Jens Høyrup was an honorary professor of the Roskilde University, Denmark. His research fields are mainly on the history of old mathematics and the modern early cultures, especially the history of mathematics of Babylon and medieval Islamic. He had published 19 monographs and many high level articles. The recent books include Lengths, Widths, Surfaces: A Portrait of Old Babylonian Algebra and Its KinNew YorkSpringer, 2002and L'algèbre au temps de Babylone : Quand les mathématiques s'écrivaient sur de l'argileParis: Vuibert & Adapt-SNES, 2010. As a famous international historian of science, he had preside George Sarton Memorial Chair,Ghent University, 2008-2009.

  From 1th April to 17th May, Jens Høyrup taught “The history of western scientific ideas”in our institute. The main theme of this class is the development of the scientific idea of Europe. Besides the discussion of the traditional mathematical and physical science, Prof. Jens also paid attention to the field of natural history and Medicine and Pharmacology. The students come from the IHNS, Peking University, University of science and technology and Capital Normal University.
