The Chinese Society for the History of Science and Technology（CSHST）was founded in 1980 and located in the Institute for the History of Natural Science (IHNS), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The CSHST is nongovernmental organization(NGO) affiliated to the China Association for Science and Technology and also a member of the International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science / Division of History of Science (IUHPS/DHS). Its purpose is to promote the development and popularization of history of science and technology.

During the last 28 years, it has made significant contributions to the advancement of progress on history of science and technology, by bring together scientists in the community on history of science and technology to participate in various conferences, congresses and symposia, providing them with forums for discussion of major issues in science and technology relevant to history of science and technology, promoting non-official academic cooperation, publishing learned journals, disseminating scientific and technologic knowledge and bringing up junior scientists. The CSHST has hosted tens of symposia on the history of science and its individual disciplines with international and domestic institutions. Especially, the CSHST and the IHNS successfully hosted the XXII International Congress of History of Science (24-30 July, 2005) in Beijing, and the International Conference on the History of Chinese Sciences in series. The members of the CSHST have their responsibility of serving in international organizations. Among them are the Council Members and the 1st Vice-President of the Executive Council of IUHPS/DHS, the President and the Vice- President of the International Society for History of East Asian Science, Technology, and Medicine (ISHEASTM), Members and Corresponding Members of the International Academy of the History of Science (IAHS), and academicians of the 3rd World Academy of Sciences (WAS).

At present, THE CSHST presides over the publication of Studies in the History of Natural Sciences (ISSN 1000-0224) and The Chinese Journal for the History of Science and Technology (ISSN, 1673-1441, selected as one of the core Chinese journals).

The CSHST present includes about 2000 members. The national congress of CSHST representatives is held every four years, and elects members of the national council. The national council elects the executive council.The Scientific Council of CSHST is composed by 57 members, coming from scientific research institutions, famous Chinese universities and other relative organizations.

THE CSHST is dedicated to serving for the social and economic development of China and promoting international communications and exchanges. Its academic commitment and contribution are increasingly recognized by the international scientific community. ,
