Notes for Contributors

The Chinese Journal for the History of Science and Technology (known as China Historical Materials of Science and Technology from 1980 to 2004, title by comrade Deng Xiaoping) is the official publication of the Chinese Society for the History of Science and Technology and the Institute for the History of Natural Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is published quarterly by China Science and Technology Press.

Essential ideas

It is devoted to all aspects of history of science, technology and medicine, and encourages studies from diverse perspectives. Although its primary concern is history of science in modern China, it is also concerned with sciences in pre-modern China and topics in world history of science that bear closely on the development of science in modern China. It features scholarly articles, sources, oral histories, forum, review essays and book reviews. It also provides news and information of the profession.

paper need new discover, new sources, new opinion or new method, and usually should not exceed 10,000 words. Specific requirements as follow

1 TitleTitles must be limited to no more than 20 words, and should be concise, indexable, and informative for a broad scientific audience. Authors should avoid using colons, questions, nonstandard abbreviations, etc. in titles.

2 Signed and introduction

3 Institution of authorPlease give the authors institution, detailed address and E-mail address.

4 AbstractAn abstract is a summary of the content of the manuscript. It should briefly describe the research purpose, method, result and conclusion.

5 Key wordsA list of two to eight keywords should follow the abstract.

6 Main text

7 FootnotesExplanatory material not suitable in the body of the manuscript should be given in footnotes, placed at the bottom of the page separately from the main body of the text, double-spaced, numbered independently on each page, and keyed to consecutive numbers (1, 2, ). In the text, footnote numbers should be inserted where appropriate above the line.

8 ReferencesComplete bibliographic information should be given in a separate section for References (not in the footnotes), put together after the text, numbered consecutively following the order in which citations appear in the article.

Subsequent citations should use an abbreviated form in the text , referring by number to the item in the list of references and using one of the following formats, such as: [1]p.473,([3],pp.6567).

Manuscripts should be submitted to CJHST with the understanding that upon publication copyright will be transferred to the Editorial Committee of CJHST. This precludes CJHST from considering material that has been submitted or accepted for publication elsewhere. The Editorial Committee reserves the right to publish material appearing in the journal in other media, including CD-ROM versions, and other forms of electronic publication.

Processing time

All submissions will be reviewed by experts selected by the editorial board. The decision of acceptance or rejection of a manuscript is made by the editorial board based on the experts reports. The entire review process may take 120 days. If the editorial board fails to make a decision within 150 days, it is up to the authors to decide whether they would withdraw their paper and submit it elsewhere.
